Earrings
Fashions come and go, but earrings have always been and will forever be a part of ever changing fads and trends. Earrings are simply one of the accessories that have endured the difficult tests of time. They are usually worn by both men and women of every age. They are a stand-out amongst various other types of accessories and can be worn daily for all types of occasions. It may appear too simple to claim but a single pair or piece of earrings dramatically influences one’s look, overall personality and mood.
History of earrings
From studies and research, the use of earrings is said to have initiated in the midst of western Asians in the form of ordinary pendants and hoops. With their belief in life after death, burying the dead along with jewelry, which they thought would be taken to the other world, turned out to be a part of their customs and traditions. The oldest earrings were revealed in Middle Eastern countries, especially in Egypt and Iraq.
Types and designs of earrings
Components of earrings may be made up of any number of materials including plastic, metal, precious stones, glass and beads. Designs vary from small studs and loops to large plates and dangling items. The size is eventually limited by the physical capacity of the earlobe to grip the earring without getting tear. However, heavy earrings worn for longer period of time may cause stretching of the piercing and the earlobe.
Earrings generally have different styles, designs, shapes and sizes but the can be usually classified into clip-on and pierced types. Pierced earrings are used most commonly as piercing can be done very easily and can secure the earrings in place different form the clipped-on types. Hoop earrings, studs and dangling are typed of pierced earrings.
Metals and gems of great value like diamonds, pearls, gold and silver are also used as earrings or as pendants. Diamond and pearl earrings are considered as great accessories for special occasions.
Effects on looks and facial features
The right shape, size and type of earrings can emphasize one’s stand-out features, may it be the perfectly structured cheekbones, deep set eyes, hairstyle or simply a smile.
Round button earrings are very appealing to the thin face, but unduly highlight round faces.
Large round hoops insert width and length that can highlight perfect cheekbones and nose.
Rectangular or oval shapes are considered to be good choices for face types which are too round or too full.
Thus, earrings due to its unique features has gained immense popularity in today’s world.
